I think I'm going to go ahead and rename the teams because these tags have gotten me all turned around. So from here on out "Team Vampire" will be known as "The Artists Formerly Known as Vampires that now Walk in the Light" and "Team Daywalker" will be known as "Those that Once Walked in Daylight, but now Ride All Night Long." I think that will help us know which is which. Just kidding, I’m going to call Team Daywalker – Team 1 since they started first and Team Vampire will become Team 2. Ok now on to the update.
The teams made an exchange about 30 miles before Time Station (TS) 11 outside of Kayenta, AZ. We spent a good chunk of our time on SR 160 E through much of Kansas. It was somewhere along the route here that we found our new team mascot. He was a friendly old dog and very polite, so we offered him a PB&J. Please feel free to come with a name for our new friend.

There were tons of canyons in this area which allowed for some wonderful views along the way. I snagged one nice big panorama that sums up part of our view on this leg of the journey. Great rock formations, craters and canyons but only green vegetation near water.
Kaleb decided to make it a mission to not let the exchange happen before he got to the summit point on Baldy Mountain. Coordinating the full team exchanges varies between teams because of how we double use our hotel rooms. Team 2 always jumps ahead to a designated hotel up the route that becomes an exchange point. When Team 1 arrives they just take over the rooms and get some sleep. However, they then have to wake up, get on the road to pass the active rider and find a good exchange point. Kaleb was tracking Team 1s location and progress and made it a mission to make it to the summit before they could leap frog and set up an exchange. Kaleb’s mission was a success and Team 2 was able to hit the summit before being passed by Team 1. They then ran up and found a nice area for a full team swap. Team 1 Round 3, bring it on!!!
