Check out my Q&A with one of our crew members, Bob Recinto. It was a pleasure to chat with him over the phone! Click here to learn more about Bob and his family!
Q: How did you get involved with RAAM?
Bob: I think Kurt (Lorch) and Jeff (Zaniker), when they were initially planning everything, called me and asked if I'd like to be involved. It sounded like a good opportunity for me.
Q: I know you've ridden in the past for events. Did they ask you to be one of the bikers, or just if you wanted to be involved?
Bob: They asked if I wanted to be in the crew. I've ridden quite a bit, but probably not to the extent that most of these riders have.
Q: What is your role on the team?
Bob: I'm the navigator for the green team. Right now that's my only responsibility. So I will have to have my face in the map the whole time, watching the route.
Q: If you had to eat a raccoon, how would you cook/prepare it?
Bob: Boy that's a tough one. I guess I would make a stew. I would have a stew and then have a nice glass of red wine with it and maybe some french fries.
Q: How has MS impacted/affected your life?
Bob: Other than knowing Kurt, Jeff and people I've met through them, I don't have any personal connection with MS in my family.
Q: One of my questions for the bikers is, 'How long have you been training for this event?'
Bob: Haha well I am training for a triathlon the week after we get back in Chicago.
Q: Is this a sprint tri or a full tri?
Bob: It's an Olympic triathlon.
Q: What is your favorite breakfast meal?
Bob: Whoa favorite breakfast meal?
Q: Or are you ever up that early?
Bob: Haha I am! I'd have to say some kind of omelet maybe.
Q: Any default omelet ingredients?
Bob: I'll say salmon omelet. Spinach, salmon and avocado. It's delish, gets your omega-3s.
Q: What are you most excited about for this trip?
Bob: Wow. I"m most excited to see America at a slower pace. And we will be going through the smaller towns and staying off the highways. It'll be awesome. Unfortunately we won't be able to stop in any of these places.
Q: And what are you most afraid or worried about?
Bob: I don't really have any worries, as the navigator I feel pretty confident. I really feel like whatever problems we will be able to handle pretty well. We've got a lot of people that can think on their feet. I have that tri the week after, so I want to make sure I can keep up with my training. I don't wanna be two weeks out of training. So that's my concern, which I guess is somewhat selfish I guess hahaha.
Q: Do you have a birthday or special date during our trip?
Bob: Not really, I think we are all gonna be gone on Father's Day.
Q: What is your favorite candy?
Bob: Dark chocolate
Q: We all know what happens when you give a mouse a cookie. What would happen if I gave you a cookie?
Bob: I'd devour it in a second. That's it, cookies don't last long in my hands.
Q: Tell us one thing about you that we would not know or would surprise us.
Bob: Um, I think what people don't know me is that I can be a workaholic. If I let myself I could become obsessed over work, but I don't like that. If get into something serious and if I let myself, I could get totally into it.
Q: The ever popular boxers or briefs question.
Bob: Briefs
Q: Do you sleep with your closet doors open or closed?
Bob: Well it's a walk-in close and it's always open. If there was an actual sliding door I would probably close it.
Q: Any closing statements or anything else you want to let people know about you?
Bob: I'm looking forward to hanging out with everyone for a week and our celebration in Annapolis. I also hope that all the riders stay healthy.
