I can't wait to hit the road with these guys for a third straight year! We start our journey next month on June 14th just to get to the starting line. RAAM 2016 will start for team racers Saturday, June 18th at 12:00 PST. Time to introduce another 2016 team member and co captain, Kurt Lorch.
Kurt is the leader for Team Vampire this year which will be looking to tackle more of the over night riding. He and his wife Joy live in Carmel, IN and have 3 amazing children, Lexi, Kenzie and Parker. Parker will be joining the team again this year as a crew member after helping out last year in 2015.
Kurt was diagnosed with MS back in 1996 which forced him to take a bit of a hiatus from biking. He had been riding road bikes since his teenage years and was finally able to return to the saddle in 2007. Much like Jeff, Kurt has found that riding helps his MS. He is also a firm believer in the saying 'use it or lose it.' If you stop doing something for too long eventually you could lose the ability. So keep on pushing!
He spends his training time trying to simulate RAAM as much as possible. Kurt does this by pushing hard for 15 minutes and then going easy for 10. Since this is a team event the riders will be doing hard 15 minutes sprints and then resting as someone else takes the road. This way everyone works on interval racing instead of distance. Kurt's go to after a ride is water, a recovery drink or chocolate milk.
Kurt says, "I always enjoy finding challenging rides to participate in and I am excited to compete in the 2016 Race Across America to continue raising funds to find a cure for MS! Please join me in the fight, by making a donation today! Any amount would be greatly appreciated."
