With RAAM 2016 just over a week from crossing the start line I thought I'd better triple up on our last couple of riders. Keegan Greene for Team Daywalker, Clark Griffin from Team Vampire and Markus Naegeli also Team Vampire round out the last 3 riders to make up our 8 person team. And they are no strangers to this route. Having completed RAAM 2014 and RAAM 2015 for Gears 2 a Cure, they are welcome veterans to the road.
Keegan will also be doubling up as our on the road bike mechanic. He has been working with bikes for years as a mechanic with Bike Line in Carmel, IN. Keegan is also assisting with nutrition using his knowledge of endurance cycling as a member of Indy Ultra Cycling. He trains everyday by riding his bike to work instead of driving. So in short, Keegan lives on his bicycle and basically knows everything there is to know about cycling. He brings an extreme wealth of knowledge and experience back for year #3.
Clark Griffin is also a 3 year Gears 2 a Cure member. Having known Kurt Lorch and Jeff Zaniker for years through supporting MS events as well as riding together, Clark was a natural choice to join back in 2014. He also heads up some of our tech that we use on the road. Last year Clark introduced the team to Cardo units to improve our communication between the rider on the road and the vehicles. He also helped wire up our follow vehicles with speakers on the front, so the riders can listen to some music on the road. Clark's training doesn't change much between his normal 4-5 rides a week, but he does adjust his portions to cut some weight for RAAM.
Markus was asked to join Gears back in 2014 by Clark and has been a part of the team every since. Markus' love of cycling started young and spread to Germany when his family moved. It appears to run in the family as RAAM 2016 will see two Naegelis on the road. Markus' son Kaleb was originally going to crew, but a spot opened up on the 8 man team for a cyclist. Markus has probably ridden in more locations around the world than any other member of the team. He is a powerhouse when it comes to descending hills and it will be an honor to have him back for a third time.
