Pre Race Day 2 consisted of some logistical things in the morning. We broke out some tasks for different groups to accomplish; shopping, complete/redo labels on vehicles, organize compartmenst under RV and other small tasks. Riders and crew chiefs met with Clark to go over our new communication systems from Cardo. These ear pieces integrate much more simply to the riders helmets without messing with earpieces.
The afternoon was spent at a wonderful lunch provided by Bill Zeh's parents up in Dana Point. They had a phenomenal view of the ocean from a little picnic area in their neighborhood. Some of the crew and riders went down and took a dip in the Pacific. It was nice to unplug for a bit and do something as a team that wasn't strictly RAAM related. The burgers, potato salad, cole slaw and snacks were also a welcome treat. But Jeff, Pete, Rob and Rick made sure to put the drive to good use. They used army figures and match box cars to simulate driver exchanges.
Unfortunately the fun had to end and it was back to business. Friday evening was the introduction of all the team riders for RAAM 2015. They began with the 2-person, then 4-person and finally the 8-person teams. All solo riders started earlier in the week and some were close to hitting Kansas by day's end. Last stop before calling it a night was Hello Betty's for our last supper. Fish is a good meal the night before a big race because it's packed with protein and vitamins A and D. We also met a wonderful new friend at the restaurant names Chrysann Butler and her daughter Prima. Chrysann has been diagnosed with MS which has left her wheel chair bound. But she is loving life and living it to the fullest!!! Thank you for taking some time to share your story with us!
Now on to the Race Start!
