We didn't travel coast to coast just to part ways at the finish line. It's time to get this party started. Many of our racers and crew have family joining us at the finish line and for a team party tonight!!!
100+ degree heat, missed turns, mis-communication, 11,000 feet above sea level, mechanical issues, exhaustion, construction, delays, pouring rain and confusion have all attempted to bring this journey to a crippling hault. However, this team kept hydrated, learned from and corrected mistakes, push through the pain and continued to fight. No one said this was going to be easy. There is a lot to be said about perseverance and determination. There were plenty of reasons to give up and just quit, but no one on this team was ready to throw in the towel. The nice thing about this having been our first attempt is there's room for improvement, but there's waaayyyy more to be proud about. Our team travelled 3,000+ miles, climbed mountains, operated on little to no sleep, slept in tents, made new friends, met people from other countries, raised awareness and funds for MS research, made last minute adjustments, laughed (some things were probably funnier at 3:00 in the morning than they should have been), saw amazing landscapes and parts of the country that many don't, shared the road with others sharing the same interest, had ZERO penalties and each member arrived without any major injuries or ailments. Those are all incredible accomplishments to be proud of!!!! I was proud to have been a part of this journey and offer my perspective. There will continue to be updates as the main journey doesn't end when we cross the finish line in Annapolis, MD. There will continue to be a need to spread the word about MS in a pursuit to find a cure. Funds need to be raised and people need to be educated. I want to thank everyone that followed and supported us. Continue to share this website with your friends and family and please give me your feedback. It's been a blast!!!! As the green team continues to truck on this last bit of the race to the finish line, power naps have become essential. The bikers are trying to gather up that little bit of energy for the next push. Two riders at a time have been sharing the road off and on for about an hour and a half. Each one goes about 4-5 miles before being relieved by the other. Meanwhile the other two riders get a nice reprieve in the Honda Pilot (Jill's car) or as we like to call it, The Follow car (Jeff's new car). Kurt Lorch and Clark Griffin act as one of the duo for the green team, while Keegan Greene and Markus Naegeli are the other. Just passed Time Station (TS) 52 and had ZERO penalties!!!! Headed to meet up with the other 4 riders in about 30 miles so they can ride in together. |
